Mercury chloride catalysts are used in organic synthesis reactions as catalysts in the process of synthesizing vinyl chloride(VCM) from acetylene and hydrogen chloride.

Under the synthesis reaction conditions, the sublimation of mercury chloride is carried out of the synthesis reactor by VCM, and enters the subsequent purification system; it passes through the activated carbon mercury removed, acid washing tower, water washing tower, and alkali washing tower, and then enters the VCM distillation and polymerization device after drying.
